Dally M Medal 2018: All you need to know

//

Rugby League’s night of nights is upon us with the stars hitting the red carpet ahead of the annual Dally M medal night, with Warriors captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck a short priced favourite to take home the game’s highest individual honour.

If Tuivasa-Sheck does get the nod he’d be the first player to win the award while playing for the Warriors, and Wide World of Sports will have all the reaction from the ceremony.

What is the Dally M Medal?

The Dally M Medal is awarded to the player of the year in the NRL competition.

Where is the Dally M Medal ceremony held?

The Dally M Medal will be awarded at a ceremony at The Star in Sydney.

What day is the Dally M Medal ceremony?

The winner of the Dally M Medal will be announced on Wednesday, September 26.

How is the Dally M Medal decided?

Judges vote 3-2-1 after every match and the player with the most votes at the end of the regular season is crowned the Dally M medallist.

Players who are suspended lose three points for each week they are sidelined.

Who are the favourites?

Since 1990 only one Dally M medallist has come from a position other than fullback, five-eighth, halfback or hooker, and that trend is likely to continue in 2018.

Warriors skipper Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is the short priced favourite with the bookmakers, while South’s Damien Cook, Cronulla’s Valentine Holmes and Newcastle’s Kalyn Ponga are all very much in contention.

Souths mentor Anthony Siebold is the consensus choice for Coach of the Year, after guiding the Rabbitohs to within one win of a grand final appearance in his first year in charge, although Trent Robinson, whose Roosters side will line up against Melbourne in the premiership decider, is also a chance.

Brisbane young gun Jamayne Isaako is the hot favourite to take out the Rookie of the Year.

2015 – Johnathan Thurston (North Queensland)

2014 – Jarryd Hayne (Parramatta) & Johnathan Thurston (North Queensland)
