Ohanian slammed for Federer comparison

//

Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian has been slammed on twitter for dragging tennis legend Roger Federer into the sexism debate surrounding his wife’s controversial US Open final loss.

Ohanian had remained silent until last week when he took to twitter to publicly chastise Australian paper The Herald Sun for their “racist and misogynistic” depiction of Williams in a cartoon they published.

His latest stand however backfired when he attempted to highlight a double-standard after drawing a comparison to a similar incident that Roger Federer was embroiled in.

“Genuine question: How did that turn out for him?” Ohanian tweeted as he questioned why the Swiss maestro was not given a code violation like Williams for swearing at a chair umpire at the 2009 US Open.

Fans were quick to point out that Federer did in fact receive and audible obscenity warning for the outburst and was slapped with a $2000(AUD) fine.

Most recently Federer offered a diplomatic message when he broke his silence on the ongoing Williams saga.

“Every umpire has their own style, it’s just how it is in any sport,” Federer told KVUE.

“In tennis you might have an umpire that gives more coaching violations and another goes more to time violation.

“You might get one guy who knows that this guy misbehaves quite often so I’ll give him a warning quicker or I’ll be more lenient with a guy because he’s a nice guy and just can’t control himself. I think it really depends on the situation.”

“At the same time, they(umpires) have to do their job, that’s what we want them to do.

“It’s been tricky but a really interesting case study.”
