Boxer suffers 'grotesque' eye injury

//

Swedish big-hitter Anthony Yigit has suffered a gruesome eye injury in his super-lightweight title fight with Ivan Baranchyk in the World Boxing Super Series.

Yigit fought bravely despite his left eye progressively closing, leading to a complete loss of vision by the fifth.

It took two more rounds before the severity of the swelling left the referee no choice but to stop the fight by way of TKO in the seventh.

Despite the grotesque injury it seems Yigit was more incensed with picking up his first professional defeat as he protested with the referee and his corner to continue the fight.

However, following the match the 27-year-old took to social media to commend the referee on the decision and confirm there was no permanent damage to his eye.

“Don’t know what to think about this picture being the reason I’m famous on the internets but thank you all for commenting Quasimodo pictures,” Yigit posted on twitter.

“Nothing is damaged around or in the eye. It’s just grotesquely swollen.

“Also, doctor stopping the fight did his job and he did it well.”
