Dockers ripped following shocking trade decision

//

AFL fans have been left fuming by the Fremantle Dockers' decision to walk away from trade talks involving Melbourne star Jesse Hogan after years of courting him.

The Dockers have openly coveted the Western Australian forward since his stunning debut for the Demons in 2014, but when presented with the chance to acquire him this year, the club walked away from the trade talks, leaving fans puzzled.

The move was confirmed by Fremantle's new football boss Peter Bell, who said his side was unwilling to reach Melbourne's trade proposal of two first-round picks in exchange for Hogan.

“We have been undertaking a due diligence process as part of a possible trade to secure Jesse Hogan,” Bell told reporters on Friday.

“As part of that process, we have had discussions with Jesse, the player’s management and Melbourne. While discussions were proceeding it became clear that what Melbourne would be seeking for a trade would not be possible for our club to meet."

However, Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney took a swipe back at Bell and the Dockers, saying the club's offer was reasonable.

“Jesse has been with us since he was 17 and has gone through some well-documented personal issues, particularly in the last two years, so we were comfortable to support his request,” he said.

“It was made clear to Jesse that if we were unable to complete an appropriate deal for both clubs, he will remain a Melbourne player.”

Fremantle's move to walk away from the Hogan trade was slammed by multiple members of the media, including AFL reporter Damian Barrett, who referred to the club as a "mess".
