Keary's astonishing late GF doubt

//

The narrative was led by Cooper Cronk, but the Roosters were led by Luke Keary.

The Clive Churchill Medallist took out the Fuchs' Performance of the Week after playing out of his skin to spur the Roosters to their 21-6 premiership winning victory over the Melbourne Storm in Sunday's NRL decider.

While Keary was fortunate to have his mentor behind the front line orchestrating the Sydney offence, the rising star has revealed he was so unsure over Cronk's fitness that he was still warming up an hour before kickoff believing he'd be along in the centre of the park.

"As the week went on I didn't think he was going to play," Keary said.

"I was still preparing in warm up that the needle wasn't going to work and he'd be no good.

"We were doing our run throughs and he wasn't with us. You don't know do you until he walked in the door and started kicking.

"I just had a quick word with him before the game because I still didn't know what he could do, and he said 'I'll have a few kicks and passes but probably just hang around the short side', which is what I expected."
