Klemmer requests Bulldogs bombshell

//

Bulldogs star prop David Klemmer is set to request a release from the final two years of his contract just one week out from the start of pre-season training.

NRL.com reported Klemmer had been looking to escape Sydney with his family after struggling with personal problems.

It is understood that Klemmer met with club CEO Andrew Hill on Tuesday to request the release.

The Kangaroo is expected to make a short trip north as he eyes a four-year $4.6 million deal with the Newcastle Knights, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Canterbury’s salary cap woes saw the devastating mid-season cull of stars Aaron woods and Moses Mbye, as the Western Sydney club come to grips with losing yet another key player.

Amid the mid-season pressure Klemmer was defiant on his position at the club.

“I’m contracted here at the moment and I could never see myself leaving, I love the club,” he said at the time.

“I was a supporter of the club as a kid and it would be hard to leave, but the club hasn’t contacted me yet.”

Klemmer has been with the Bulldogs since he was 15-years-old and played juniors at the club.
