Knights legend backing potential Klemmer move

//

Newcastle Knights legend Andrew Johns has thrown his weight behind David Klemmer's potential move, saying a move up north would be a perfect fit for the Blues star.

Speaking to Nine News, Johns explained how the 24-year-old Bulldogs star would fit in perfectly if he were to move to Newcastle.

"He's no nonsense," Johns said.

"He just gets out there and rips in. The big thing is, I think if he took his family up there, he'd love it.

"I'm sure that they'd love to be up there so I think it's a good fit all around."

The Knights climbed up the ladder in 2018 on the back of a rejuvenated Mitchell Pearce and Kalyn Ponga, and Johns suggested that Klemmer would help the duo elevate their games even further.

"It's a club on the up," Johns said.

"They need a big body. They've got Kalyn Ponga there - we all know he's a freakish player - and Mitchell Pearce, but they need someone going forward so that'd be (Klemmer's) job."

Klemmer is currently half way through a four-year deal worth approximately $2.5 million with the Bulldogs, and he is poised to earn around $1 million a season with the Knights, but it his money well-spent according to Johns.

"It is a lot of money, usually that money is given to the game-breakers," he said.

"But the market is whatever a club is willing to pay. I don't know what the market is for a world-class front-rower now."
