McGregor to cash in on UFC return

//

It appears Conor McGregor is in line to make more obscene amounts of money.

The Irish fighter claims that his next fight against fight Khabib Nurmagomedov in his UFC return this Sunday AEST, will see him take home $AUD 90million.

McGregor goes into this Sunday’s Las Vegas bout aiming to win back his lightweight title, which was stripped from him for switching to boxing to fight Floyd Mayweather last August.

McGregor pocketed around $100 million for his fight against Mayweather, and the Irish UFC star says the figure for his comeback UFC fight isn’t far off the mark.

“It’s a tasty, tasty, record-breaking deal,” McGregor told the Ariel Helwani MMA Show.

“My team and myself have done a lot of great work – and with the UFC – we’ve done a lot of good work.

“It’s give or take (nine figures). The Mayweather fight was nine figures but we’re almost there, it’s a good, solid eight figures - half way there.

“We’re all very happy with where we’re at. It’s not what the Mayweather fight was but it’s a good half way there.

“And to fight this bum, this flat-footed fool that everyone thinks is all this and all that.

“He’s stuck in the mud and he’s going to freeze in there. We’re very happy with the deal.”

The last time McGregor fought in the UFC was back in 2016, when he became a champion in two weight divisions by beating Eddie Alvarez.

McGregor KO’d Alvarez inside the first minute of proceedings and the UFC star plans on dishing out the same sort of punishment on Nurmagomedov.

“I believe (it will be a) KO, a devastating KO.

“I hope it’s not too early. I believe I will clatter him and he will crumble.

“I don’t believe he can take a smack. I don’t think he has the chin of a [Nate] Diaz or the composure of a (Floyd) Mayweather.

“He has a glass chin that hasn’t been cracked yet. I hope he absorbs it then I’ll maul him.”
