'So much venom': Rooney's insane freekick

//

English football star Wayne Rooney continues to thrill fans in Major League Soccer, scoring his 10th goal of the season for DC United with a long-range freekick bomb.

The ex-Manchester United captain moved to America in July and has avoided the fate of former England teammates Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard whose careers fizzled out stateside.

Before his latest cracker, Rooney won praise from another European superstar wowing the Americans – Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Zlatan took a few minutes out of bigging himself up to send some love Rooney’s way.

"I think so far he did fantastic, he changed the team he came to and they have done good results," Ibrahimovic told Sky Sports News.

"Before he came it was different results, but he has been playing good and scoring goals and he shows that he is Rooney.

"I don't need to describe Rooney. Everybody knows Rooney and they know his quality, so it's only for him to play the games and perform."

Rooney had scored on nine occasions and provided six assists in 17 games before Thursday’s match against Toronto.

When he arrived at DC United the team was bottom of the league after two wins in 14 games. With him their record is 10-4-3 record and are now in playoff contention.

Fans are loving what they're seeing from him.
