'We're fighting': Floyd keen on Khabib clash

//

'We can make it happen".

The five words that will have Khabib Nurmagomedov rubbing his hands in anticipation but will likely have fight fans shaking their heads.

Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather has challenged unbeaten UFC star Khabib Nurmagomedov to step into the ring, after the MMA star called out the boxer on Instagram.

Mayweather, 41, says his purse for the fight could be double what he earned from the McGregor bout in August 2017 but declared the fight must take place in Las Vegas.

"Oh, we fighting. He called me out. So, he gotta come to my world," Mayweather, told TMZ Sports.

"I'm my own boss. So, I can't say what's going on on Khabib's end. But, on my end, we can make it happen.

"I don't know no other fighter that has done the numbers I have done. I don't know any fighters that have made the money I have made, so he called me out - come into my world, make it happen.

"When I face Khabib I'm getting a nine-figure payday. It's more than the McGregor fight. "I'm going to say somewhere between 110 million and 200 million US dollars guaranteed."

But Khabib clapped back at the condition of fighting in Vegas, saying he'd rather fight elsewhere.

The Russian wrote on Instagram: “@floydmayweather But no Vegas, they won’t pay my money."

Rumours of a fight between Nurmagomedov and Mayweather started after Mayweather CEO Leonard Ellerbe, posted a video with Nurmagomedov on Instagram.

“Let’s go Floyd. We have to fight now: 50-0 versus 27-0. We are two guys who never lose. [But] in the jungle there is only one king. Of course, I am the king because he cannot drop McGregor but I drop him easily. Let’s go.”

Mayweather warned Nurmagomedov to behave on fight night, with the Russian's purse from the McGregor fight withheld by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after he leapt over the cage and attacked a member of McGregor's team.

Mayweather said: "Vegas is the fighting capital and after the fight you have to conduct yourself like a true professional, not just in the ring, but outside the ring also."

Nurmagomedov extended his perfect professional mixed martial arts record to 27-0 and retained his UFC lightweight title with a stunning fourth-round submission victory over McGregor in a fight which ended in controversy and a mass brawl.

McGregor made a brief foray into boxing last year to take on Mayweather, who moved to 50-0 in the paid ranks by stopping the Irishman in the 10th round of their highly lucrative showdown.

UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier doesn't think fighting Floyd is a good idea for the Russian UFC star.

Cormier warned Khabib that Mayweather will easily beat him in the squared circle.

“Khabib better not try to box him. Khabib better not try to box Mayweather. What is he doing, man," he told UFC writer Ariel Helwani.

“Unless he’s just going to go do it for money, because he is going to get beat. I love Khabib man but he is going to get beat up by Mayweather.

"He’s crazy. He is going to start wrestling. Khabib is going to start wrestling in the boxing ring. He’s going to get beat so bad he is going to start wrestling.”
