Arzani set to undergo surgery on ACL injury

//

Socceroos star Daniel Arzani has confirmed he has suffered an ACL injury and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Arzani went down in pain during his much-anticipated Celtic debut against Dundee where he had showed impressive form up until the being stretchered off. The Scottish team were awaiting scans on his knee, hopeful for a positive outcome, but unfortunately it wasn't to be.

Arzani shared an update on his injury on social media on Tuesday morning, Australian time.

"Thank you to everyone who has taken the time out of their day to show support and love, I’m trying my best to reply to everyone but please understand this is also a very tough time for me as I received the bad news today that I will indeed need an ACL Op [sic] ruling me out until next season," he said.

"Apologies to the Celtic fans for my 20 minute cameo. This is however the beginning of my journey and I promise to be back better than ever. Day 1 road to recovery starts now."

The 19-year-old was in Spain to visit surgeon Ramon Cugat when he got the diagnosis that he would need an operation.

The injury means the up-and-coming Aussie attacker will miss the Socceroos' Asian Cup campaign in January and he will not take part in the anymore of Celtic's matches this season in Europe.

Recovery time for such an injury is usually estimated to be between 9-12 months.

Despite his injury, Arzani made a promising contribution in his limited time on the pitch for Celtic.

"He's a talented boy. He's settled in very, very well and he was just building up his confidence to come in and play, it's just unfortunate that he had to go off," Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said of Arzani after the 5-0 win over Dundee.

"He's a Celtic player in terms of he wants to beat people and wants to be aggressive. We'll have to see how that is.

"He's a really good kid. He's a super bright boy, he wants to do well for Celtic."
