Broncos great calls for Bennett to 'move on'

//

Wayne Bennett's decision to dig his heels in at the Broncos and refuse an immediate swap deal with South Sydney coach Anthony Seibold has brought the club into "disrepute" according to Brisbane great Justin Hodges.

Bennett called an emergency meeting with Broncos players yesterday and told them of his decision to see out his contract in 2019 despite mounting pressure for the master coach to make a run for Redfern.

Both clubs have reportedly settled on the financial details of a potential swap deal but Bennett is sticking to the previous agreement with the club which states he will be a Bronco next season.

Hodges urged for the swap deal to go ahead calling for his former coach to make an early start at Souths and hand over to Seibold.

“I love Wayne, he’s been a great coach for me, but I think he needs to really stand up here and leave the club," Hodges told Fox Sports News

“He’s always been one to say I don’t want to bring the club into disrepute. I think over the last six months he’s done that. Being an ex-player and ex-captain I support Paul White and the board and I think it’s time for him to move on and bring a new coach in.

“I think his time is done...now is the time to make the change. There’s no point staying here for a year and same with Seib’s (Seibold) at the Rabbitohs.

“I hope common sense does prevail over the next couple of weeks and hopefully Wayne does move on.”

Hodges joins a long line of former premiership players to become in embroiled in the club's coaching saga and accused Bennett for being responsible for the club's recent instability.
