'Get me out! There's fire!'

//

Nico Hulkenberg had a scary moment during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after his Renault flipped several times.

The safety car came out after just two laps when Hulkenberg was sent flying through the air after being clipped by Romain Grosjean. The heart-stopping scene saw Hulkenberg landing upside down in the barriers with smoke coming from the car.

"I'm hanging here like a cow. Get me out," Hulkenberg was heard saying on his radio.

"There's fire. There's fire!"

Staff rushed to the accident and extinguished the flames before the car was turned back around and Hulkenberg emerged unharmed. His car had to be lifted off the track by a crane.

"Just frustrated obviously that the race finished so soon for me," Hulkenberg said after the race.

"That's not how we imagined the last race because it's such a long build-up, a lot of work goes into it. And to have this is hard to swallow and disappointing.

"I was racing Romain side-by-side into turn eight and we were both really late on the breaks, locking our inside wheels into it and I ran wide and he ran wide. I saw him more or less. I thought he went off the track that's why I went for the apex in turn nine.

"I really didn't see him or heard him so I went for the apex but he was still there, our wheels touched and he launched me in the air."

Grosjean immediately seemed concerned about Hulkenberg over his radio and following the race expressed his relief.

"He was not expecting me to be there and I was not expecting him to turn so sharp. It was a very aggressive roll and I'm very happy he's okay, it shows the safety in Formula One," Grosjean said.

Brit Lewis Hamilton won in Abu Dhabi ahead of Ferrari rival Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull's Max Verstappen with Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo in fourth.
