'Half of it missing': All Black's gruesome eye injury

//

A photo of the gruesome eye injury that has sidelined All Blacks prop Joe Moody for the duration of the Kiwis’ European tour has surfaced.

Moody sustained the horrific injury during a training ground mishap during a run of the mill lineout drill.

The loosehead prop’s eyelid was split when a teammate’s hand accidentally came in contact with his face.

He was immediately tended to by All Blacks coaches who promptly whisked him to a plastic surgeon where he required three layers of stitching.

“Joe Moody has found a way to get himself injured this year in unusual fashion,” coach Steve Hansen said.

“It was a lineout lift and he copped someone’s hand. Anyone else and it would have probably missed.

“As our doctor described it, your eyelid is your window washer. So if you have got half of it missing, you can’t wipe your eye and it could affect your eyesight long term.

We need to make sure he is OK.”
