Is this football's worst-ever penalty?

//

Raheem Sterling sent football into uproar on Thursday by winning one of the worst penalty decisions ever seen.

The Manchester City superstar dribbled into the area during the first half of his team's group match against Shakhtar Donetsk ... then kicked the pitch, caught his toe and tripped over without even a hint of contact from the looming defender.

Penalty.

The decision - made worse by the fact that there was an assistant referee supposedly watching on the byline - was branded "shocking" in commentary and sent pundits mad.

Sterling and the poor defender, Mykola Matviyenko, could only laugh at the disgraceful refereeing. The penalty was converted by Gabriel Jesus.

The England winger scored a goal of his own in the second half, a cracking right-foot strike that put Man City up 3-0.
