Kiwi batsmen combine to set new world record

//

Two Kiwi batsmen have combined to set a new cricket world record for the most runs scored in an over.

Joe Carter and Brett Hamption, two middle-orders from Northern District, smashed an incredible 43 runs off a single over in New Zealand’s domestic one-day cup at Seddon Park.

It was a hard pill to swallow for young Central Districts bowler Willem Ludick when his first ball was sent for a boundary – and from their things only got worse.

The next went for six as Ludick was called for a no ball.

Same went for ball three.

Hampton then cracked another six before handing over to Carter with a single, as he blasted another 18 runs from the final three balls of the over to set the new world record.

The Kiwi pair edged out the old record of 39, set by Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura who blasted all 39 runs on his own.
