Kiwi UFC phenom to fight legend

//

Israel Adesanya will fight MMA legend Anderson Silva at UFC 234 in Melbourne, according to US media.

ESPN first reported that news that rising Kiwi star Adesanya, 29, has agreed a bout against the longest-reigning middleweight champion in UFC history, now 43 but still a huge name.

The February card at Rod Laver Arena is headlined by Australia's middleweight champion Robert Whittaker vs Kelvin Gastelum. Adesanya is jostling for a title shot, though it is unclear if his bout against Silva will elevate his claims.

Adesanya destroyed Derek Brunson at Madison Square Garden earlier this month, continuing his impressive four-fight win streak since joining the UFC last year.

Coincidentally, Anderson's last win was also over Brunson, though it was a controversial decision. The Brazilian remains an icon of MMA, but has marred his career with positive PED tests in his later years.
