The reason behind Simmons' matching attire

//

Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers put together arguably their most complete performance against the Washington Wizards, but it was Simmons' attire that caused a stir.

Simmons and his star teammate Jimmy Butler came out wearing large matching white headbands, and Butler revealed the reason behind the duo's look: a dynamic defensive partnership.

Butler is widely considered to be one of the league's best perimeter defenders, as evidenced by his four All-Defensive Team selections, and he lavished praise on the Australian star for his own defensive abilities.

"[Ben] makes everybody’s job easier," Butler told reporters after the win.

"Not just on the offensive end but for sure on the defensive end. He can literally switch one through five.

"I think having someone like that on your team makes the world of a difference."

Simmons was excellent on the night, converting all five of his field-goal attempts en-route to a 13-point, 10-assist, eight-rebound night, while Butler contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Following the game, Philadelphia coach Brett Brown also praised the defensive ability of Simmons and added that he noticed the burgeoning relationship between the two stars.

"I see a partnership with those two," Brown said.

"I think that Ben Simmons can be anything he wants to be defensively. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

"I think his easiest way of impacting an NBA game, right now, is at the defensive end.

"I feel when Ben locks in, our world changes dramatically."

The 76ers ran out 123-98 winners and improved their season record to 16-8 while maintaining their dominant home form over the 8-14 Wizards.
