The reason why Mundine didn't protest national anthem

//

In the lead up to his clash against Jeff Horn, Anthony Mundine promised he wouldn't stand for the national anthem before the fight.

“If they play the anthem, I’m sitting down,” Mundine told reporters in October.

“I can’t stand for that, it’s a white supremacist song.”

And in the end he didn't have to, with the anthem being ditched because of time constraints.

The undercard didn't feature a knockout, meaning fight fans had to endure every round of every bout. And since there's no daylight saving in Brisbane, the fight started 1130pm AEDT.

Both Horn and Mundine were rushed out to the ring after the final fight on the undercard finished; with the event far exceeding Suncorp Stadium’s 10.30pm curfew.

Fans around the country weren’t happy with the wait, with pub goers in Sydney concerned they might be caught out about lockout laws.

In the end time beat "The Man" in more ways than one.
