Farcical scenes as A-League goalposts break mid-match

//

A snapped goalpost has caused a major delay in the A-League match between Central Coast and Perth in Gosford.

The incident occurred in the 10th minute of the game at Gosford's Central Coast Stadium on Tuesday night when Perth centre back Tomislav Mrcela ran into the back of the Mariners net.

The moment that broke the goal post

His header also ended up there but the goal was disallowed for offside with Perth already leading 1-0 through a third-minute Andy Keogh goal.

Stadium staff rushed to inspect the damaged goalposts as play was delayed for approximately 45 minutes. Players, coaching staff and fans watched on in disbelief.

The damaged goal was eventually replaced by a portable goal on wheels, which also meant the undamaged goal at the other end had to be replaced to ensure both goals were the same size.
