Kohli stunned by incredible Khawaja catch

//

Australia has made a stunning start to the first Test against India in Adelaide, with three wickets in the first hour of play, including the key wicket of Indian captain Virat Kohli, who fell to an extraordinary catch from Usman Khawaja.

After India won the toss and elected to bat in sweltering conditions, the Aussie bowlers ripped through the Indian top-order, with three batsmen back in the pavilion in the opening 11 overs.

It was an impressive opening spell from the Australian bowlers, with Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood  and Pat Cummins all striking early.

KL Rahul was the first to fall, slashing at a wide ball from Hazlewood and edging to Aaron Finch at third slip, while Murali Vijay fell for the oldest trick in the fast bowler’s book, a succession of short balls followed up by a full delivery that Vijay feathered through to Tim Paine.

Kohli’s wicket was the icing on the cake for Australia, with Khawaja diving to his left in the gully to take a sensational one-handed catch, sending the Indian captain on his way for just three.

The world’s top ranked batsman looked on in despair as Khawaja launched himself through the air to pluck the ball at full stretch.

All three dismissals have fallen to poor shots to balls wide of the off-stump.

Australia’s bowling attack held the upper hand early, with just two boundaries coming in the opening hour of play.
