LeBron unloads on NFL owners' 'slave mentality'

//

NBA superstar LeBron James has taken an extraordinary swipe at the owners of the 32 teams in the NFL on his own TV show.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Shop, James was seen discussing the difference between the league he plies his trade in and the NFL when he made the startling statement.

“In the NFL they got a bunch of old white men owning teams and they got that slave mentality,” James said.

“And it’s like, ‘This is my team. You do what the f--- I tell y’all to do. Or we get rid of y’all.’

“The players are who make the ship go. We make it go. Every Sunday, without Todd Gurley and without Odell Beckham Jr., without those players, those guys, there is no football. And it’s the same in the NBA.”

James' statements don't come as a particular surprise given that he has endured his own share of bad ownership in the form of Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.

Gilbert famously penned a scathing letter aimed at James accusing him of quitting on the team among other things when James announced his decision to join the Miami Heat as a free agent in the summer of 2010.

The four-time MVP also discussed the difference in the mentality of the two leads with regards to players' potential.

“The difference between the NBA and the NFL, the NBA is what we believe he [a player] can be. The potential,” James said.

“In the NFL, it’s like what can you do for me this Sunday, or this Monday or this Thursday, and if you ain’t it, we moving on.”
