'Obliterated' Kiwi UFC star leaves fans in awe

//

New Zealand MMA fighter Dan Hooker might've copped a vicious hiding at the hands of Brazilian Edson Barboza but the Kiwi gained plenty of admirers with the amount courage he displayed in the lopsided loss.

It's highly unusual for fight fans to be drawn to the losing fighter in such a heavy loss, yet the way Hooker kept on moving forward despite copping blow after blow had the viewing audience and social media in awe.

Barboza entered the fight off the back of consecutive losses and rebounded in emphatic fashion, throwing brutal leg and body kicks at will that caused significant damage.

It wasn't like Hooker was toast from the outset, the fighter known as "The Hangman" was aggressive in the first round and was counter-attacking quite well when Barboza moved in.

The second round swayed things in Barboza's favour when the South American landed several heavy kicks to the body and legs which hurt Hooker badly. By the end of the round Hooker was out on his feet but no matter how hard he was getting hit, he kept coming back for more like a mad man.

Eventually, Barboza's spinning back kicks were too much to handle for Hooker and he was floored by a body punch that seemed innocuous from the outside looking in.

The win by Barboza was so dominant, yet fans and pundits on social media couldn't help but praise the heart shown by Hooker while others denounced the lack of action from his corner.
