Abandoned Mormon mission boosts Broncos

//

Tryscoring utility back Richie Kennar has abandoned plans to go on a Mormon mission and has returned to rugby league.

The 24-year-old wing/centre quit Souths at the end of last season and was set to follow his faith on an overseas posting.

But Kennar has had a change of heart and will attempt to break back into the NRL with the Brisbane Broncos.

Kennar has a close relationship with new Broncos coach Anthony Seibold from their time together at Souths last season, in which he scored seven tries in eight games and looked impressive.

Kennar will start the new season at the Broncos’ feeder team Wynnum Manly Seagulls in the Queensland Cup and wait for a chance to break into the strong Brisbane backline.

He is certain to get a chance at some stage of the year and will be a handy addition to the club’s depth during the State of Origin period.
