De Minaur steamrolls Sousa for first round victory

//

Fresh off his Sydney International victory on Saturday, Alex de Minaur showed no signs of fatigue in his round one, straight sets victory over Pedro Sousa at the Australian Open.

De Minaur triumphed in front of a vocal home crowd 6-4, 7-5, 6-4, just two days after he played two matches in a single day to claim the Sydney title.

"I'm very happy with my performance today ," the 19-year-old said after the win on Margaret Court Arena.

"I'm proud that I was able to get it done in three sets."

De Minaur's biggest celebration following the win however was reserved for a discussion about the teenager finally earning his driver's licence.

"If you see me driving, you want to watch out," de Minaur said with an ear-to-ear grin.

"I only recently got my licence, literally a few months ago. It's probably the biggest moment of my career."
