Miraculous 'shot of the year' stuns crowd

//

British tennis player Dan Evans pulled out possibly the 'shot of the year' during qualifying for the 2019 Australian Open.

The 28-year-old from Birmingham is just one win away from the main draw of the first grand slam of the year after defeating Austria's Jurij Rodionov 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in qualifying in Melbourne.

During the match he turned heads with an unbelievable shot that had the entire crowd stunned.

Caught in a rally with Rodionov and charging in the opposite direction of the Austrian's shot, Evans looked like he would be run off the court.

Then he somehow managed a near impossible, ninja-like swinging back-hand with his back still turned to his opponent.

Evans looked just as surprised as the crowd at his unorthodox winner.

"Best shot I’ve seen live ever," fellow British tennis player Jonny O'Mara said.

The Englishman was a hit at the 2017 Australian Open when he upset Marin Cilic.
