NRL launch cheeky Super Bowl ad campaign

//

The NRL has produced a cheeky advertising campaign to hijack American sports' greatest event - the Super Bowl.

NRL officials have hired out three giant billboards in Atlanta, Georgia - home of next weekend’s NFL decider on February 3 - challenging America’s right to call the Super Bowl winners ‘world champions’.

The posters claim the Sydney Roosters - winners of last year's NRL grand final - are in fact the world champs - and the billboard has set tongues wagging in the USA.

"Americans always claim their domestic league winners, whether it’s NBA, MLB or NFL are the World Champions," NRL boss Todd Greenberg explained in a memo to staff.

"So, if they can make this claim, why can’t we?

"Although the billboard posters only went up today they have already turned heads and we expect some positive media coverage this week.

"It’s a cheeky, fun way of kicking off our promotions for 2019."
