UFC president tweets photo of fighter's would-be robber

//

UFC president Dana White has circulated a photo on Twitter of the man who tried to steal strawweight fighter Polyana Viana’s phone on Sunday night.

The female fighter was allegedly waiting for an Uber in front of her apartment in Rio de Janeiro when she was approached by a man.

From what White circulated on Twitter it seems Viana was more than equipped to deal with the situation with his post showing a side by side comparison of the two after the fray.

“On the left is Polyana Viana, one of our UFC fighters and on the right, is the guy who tried to rob her,” he tweeted alongside the photo of her would be-mugger’s badly beaten profile.

According to Viana, the man had seated himself next to her before attempting to make off with her phone.

“When he saw I saw him, he sat next to me,” Viana told MMA Junkie.

“He asked me the time, I said it, and I saw he wasn’t going to leave. So I already moved to put my cell phone in my waist. And then he said, ‘Give me the phone. Don’t try to react, because I’m armed.’ Then he put his hand over (a gun), but I realized it was too soft.

“He was really close to me. So I thought, ‘If it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it.’ So I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick. He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke. Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, ‘Now we’ll wait for the police.’”

Passer-by then allegedly assisted Viana with calling the police before the man was taken to hospital to be treated for his wounds.

Viana currently holds a 1-1 record in the Octagon after coming off a decision loss to J.J. Aldrich at UFC 227 late last year.
