How Slater is inspiring Saints culture overhaul

//

Retired NRL star Billy Slater has been praised for his instant impact in his new role with the St Kilda Football Club.

Following his retirement at the end of the 2018 season, Slater was immediately snapped up by the Saints in a leadership role, and midfielder Jack Steele explained how the former Storm star has helped the club.

"Just the way we get in the club and get things done," Steele told Nine News.

"Our attitude towards training and meetings and stuff like that.

"A few little things that just help us and help the young boys get things done properly."

Steele's sentiments were echoed by his teammate Nick Coffield, who told Fox Footy that the two-time premiership player, Dally M Medallist and two-time Clive Churchill Medallist "knows what it takes to be an elite player".

"He's got so much knowledge, even though it's a different code," Coffield said.

"He's given us little tips on things not to miss and things we should be doing in our first to four years. He said not to wait - if you're good enough now then you can play."
