Simmons' aggression praised in Sixers win

//

Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown has praised Australian star Ben Simmons for his assertiveness in the team's four-point win over the Miami Heat.

In the team's first game following the All-Star break, an aggressive Simmons led a Sixers side without All-Star big man Joel Embiid to a 106-102 win.

Following the game, Brown explained how an aggressive Simmons puts pressure on opposition defences.

"I think the main thing is his disposition and his mentality that he wanted the ball," Brown told reporters.

"Rarely when the game is unfolding do you look up on the floor and don't think, 'he's got a mismatch'.

"He's 6'10 and there's a physicality to him that's more potent and powerful than others may see on the stat sheet.

"He's physical, he's big and I thought that outside of how he scored was the thing that stood out the most. He wanted the ball. He sensed we needed a bucket and no matter who was guarding him, his mentality was as impressive as his finishing."

Simmons finished with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists while shooting 9-of-16 from the field, as trade-deadline arrival Tobias Harris enjoyed his best game as a Sixer with 23 points and 11 rebounds in 36 minutes of action.

The Australian star's performance was recognised by Miami Heat veteran Dwyane Wade, who chose to exchange his jersey with Simmons following the win.

Philadelphia's win on Australian heritage night was its second in two years after last year's win over Chicago.

As a part of the heritage night festivities, Wells Fargo Center was once again filled with Four n Twenty meat pies, although the Australian delicacy was anything but a hit with the locals.
