The Steelers youngster dubbed the next JT

//

He’s 17 and looks more like a ballboy - and may just be the hottest young halfback prospect in the game.

Meet Jayden Bud Sullivan, playmaker for the Illawarra Steelers SG Ball team and target of at least half a dozen clubs for next season.

The Dragons are desperate to hang onto the teenager, who started the year in scintillating form last weekend as the Steelers carved up Cronulla 36-4.

A young Indigenous player, Sullivan is already drawing comparisons with the maestro of the modern era - Johnathan Thurston.

Like Thurston, some critics have labelled Sullivan too small to make the grade early in his career - but his manager is confident they will eat their words.

“There is something very special about this kid,” manager Mario Tartak says.

“He is only 17, playing against 18 year olds but is captain of the team and a brilliant reader of the game.”

Sullivan won the Rick Posetti award for Illawarra’s SG Ball Player of the Year last season and is one for the little black books.
