Rafa's uncle lashes 'disrespectful' Kyrgios

//

Rafael Nadal’s uncle has slammed Nick Kyrgios in a new attack on the Australian, following the clash between the Spanish star and the Mexico Open winner.

Nadal got into it with Kyrgios during his three-set loss to the Aussie in Acapulco saying “he lacks respect for the public, himself and his opponent”.

Now Nadal’s former coach and uncle, Toni Nadal, has chimed in over his nephew’s clash with the 23-year-old during the ATP event.

“Rafa is totally right,” Toni told Tennis World.

“He lacks education and smartness.

“He should be fighting for the top-rankings and instead, he is no. 40.

“He does not look like a bad guy but he has been disrespectful too many times to get back on track.”

Toni Nadal had been Rafa’s coach since his junior days but the pair split last year.

Uncle Nadal’s comments come after Rafa took another swipe at Kyrgios after the loss, saying he doesn’t set the right example for younger players coming through.

Nadal told reporters at Indian Wells that his initial comments might have been lost in translation but that the overall message hasn’t changed.

 “I never said nothing too negative about Nick, even if he took it more personally,” Nadal said.

Nick Kyrgios

“I understand this part of the game and I think it’s a good show for the game, but there’s other stuff in my opinion he can do better.

“Everybody is free to do whatever they want, but at end of the day, in my opinion, he has an impact on the new generations,” Nadal said.

“He’s young, he’s a famous player and in my opinion we need to show good values for the kids.”
