The insane cost of bringing Kobe to Oz

//

While most outside the sporting world probably had no clue, Oscar-winning NBA legend Kobe Bryant touched down in Australia for the first time this week and boy was it worth his while.

The five-time NBA champion held his Mamba Mentality Experience at Melbourne’s Crown Casino, with sports fans paying top dollar to listen the iconic former NBA player open up on his storied career, family and his growing fortune.

Even Brownlow medallist Tom Mitchell and Hawks teammate Jarryd Roughead were in attendance, along with Carlton legend Anthony Koutoufides as Bryant offered sound advice to all.

“Don’t compromise the love that you have for something because you decide to take an easier route or you decide to take a safer route.

“Do what you love to do and do it to the best of your ability.’’

And it’s clear that Kobe has followed his own advice if reports about the price tag attached to his 50-hour visit are true.

According to the Herald Sun, the Lakers champion flew in on a private jet from Los Angeles for an appearance fee of just under $2 million.

Kobe reportedly booked out two adjoining rooms at Crown’s Presidential Villas, costing $20,000 a night per room, so he could conduct meetings during his stay. And in case you were wondering, Bryant didn’t fork out a cent for the rooms or the cost of air travel.

And it wasn’t like the guy was busting his gut while taking in the scenery around Melbourne during his stay.

He attended a matinee performance of the Harry Potter spectacular at the Princess Theatre, before speaking to a sold out crowd about all things basketball, his personal and public life.

All in all, Bryant’s little 2-day trip to Australia netted the former Laker a tidy sum, which worked out to be $48,000 an hour or if you like $815 per minute.
