Warne's stunning vote of confidence for Warner

//

Ahead of David Warner's impending return into the Australian One Day side, Shane Warne has backed the opener to return to the fold with a bang.

Speaking to the UK Telegraph, Warne compared his experience from returning successfully after a 12-month ban and suggested that Warner will experience similar success.

"All I can go on is experience having a year off myself," Warne said.

"The next four years were the best I ever had. I was hungry for the game.

"My body and mind were fresh and it is amazing how excited you are to play again.

"The little things that used to make you say ‘here we go again’ don’t matter anymore. You get excited just going to the nets again because you have taken it for granted in the past so I think they will come back better than they were.

"They are going to come out and destroy attacks and I back David Warner to be the player of the World Cup."

Warner and fellow banned batsman Steve Smith were both eligible to be selected in Australia's upcoming five-match series against Pakistan, but selectors opted to give the pair more rest.

Warne's vote of confidence in Warner comes after he suggested that the return of the banned duo will catapult Australia to back-to-back World Cup titles.

"That’s why I reckon Australia can win the World Cup,” Warne told Fox Sports.

“Have a look at their records. Absolute class, as good as anybody in the world those two players. They’ll walk straight back in, they’ll be hungry.

“They’ll be a bit nervous in the first few games but that’ll be good for them, they’ll be excited and I would expect them to play as good as they always have.”
