Jesinta crushes Buddy trade talk in four words

//

Lanc Franklin's wife Jesinta and Swans coach John Longmire have shot down claims that the AFL superstar might be traded from Sydney.

Collingwood legend Tony Shaw claimed last week that the Swans should explore a trade for Franklin as he enters the latter stage of his career. It was a debate-sparker, though it is believed that Franklin's back-ended $10 million contract makes him all but untradeable.

Longmire also slammed any notion of Franklin moving on.

“Someone wanted a headline. I don’t think anyone took it seriously did they?” Longmire said.

“That’s all it does, create articles and discussions. The serious football journos wouldn’t have fallen for that.”

Jesinta Franklin, the leading model who married 'Buddy' in 2017, made her thoughts known on Easter Sunday with a sparkling Sydney Instagram post that said: "Wouldn't live anywhere else."

Franklin left Hawthorn for Sydney in 2013, largely to be closer to Jesinta. While he has not delivered the Swans another premiership, he has maintained his place among the AFL's best players.

Buddy hit another milestone in a weekend loss to Richmond, which left Sydney 16th on the ladder. The explosive forward is now seventh on the all-time goal-kickers list with 928, having surpassed Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd during the Tigers match.

While Franklin is still producing the goods, Sydney appears at risk of entering a rare downturn. That was why Shaw raised the possibility of a trade, saying that the Swans could still acquire some valuable trade picks for their megastar if they were willing to put him on the block.

“I’m thinking maybe while Buddy still has a little bit to offer you can go the reverse and build for another couple of years down the track, long-term and get some, I would think, very early draft picks,” Shaw told The Daily Telegraph.
