McGregor's vile attack on Khabib's wife

//

The Twitter beef between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov has reached new heights, with the former Irish UFC champion's latest below the belt comment sparking a fresh new chapter in his feud with the undefeated Dagestani lightweight champion.

Both men have been going at it over the last month on Twitter but the latest series of personal attacks from McGregor started when Nurmagomedov expressed skepticism about the Irishman's latest retirement plans, following his announcement to call it quits in the Octagon.

“Conor acts like a jealous wife, who says, ‘I will leave’ all the time but then comes back,” Nurmagomedov said.

Both fighters have slugged it out on social media after Khabib's fourth round submission victory in their fight at UFC 229 last October but McGregor's response to Khabib's take on his retirement copped some heat for obvious reasons.

The Irish fighter posted to Twitter a photo of Khabib and his wife on their wedding day with the caption: “You wife is a towel, mate.”

Nurmagomedov reportedly got married in 2013 and in images released of the traditional ceremony, his better half's face is covered by a veil.

McGregor deleted the tweet shortly after posting the message but word had already reached the undefeated Nurmagomedov, who clapped back with a stinging rebuke of his own, referring to the former two-time champion as a "rapist" and posted a leaked photo of McGregor and 26-year-old Terri Murray, the woman who claims that McGregor is the father of her child stemming from an alleged 2017 romp with the Irish fighter.

The social media war didn't go unnoticed by UFC boss Dana White, who expressed concern over the nature of the exchanges to Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole. White said “the ongoing situation has escalated to a level that is unacceptable” and that the company is “taking the necessary steps to reach out to both athlete camps and this situation is being addressed by all parties internally.”

Following White's warning to both sides, McGregor went at Khabib further fueling the hatred between both sides.

Things kicked off between the two on March 30, when McGregor replied to a tweet by Nurmagomedov, leading to a barrage of exchanges between the pair.

Khabib responded a few hours later slamming McGregor and reminding him of the beating he handed him.

It settled down for a few days until McGregor reignited the feud by calling for a rematch and posting about the Dagestani's brother, which he deleted along with the post about his wife.

Nurmagomedov is currently suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his role in the fracas that followed his fight with McGregor last year. The UFC has expressed a desire for him to return in September to face the winner of a UFC 236 interim fight between Dustin Poirier and featherweight champ Max Holloway. Recent reports have suggested his next fight could take place in Abu Dhabi.

McGregor's suspension for the brawl ends this weekend. He’s due in court on April 10 on multiple felony charges for allegedly stealing and smashing a fan’s cell phone in Miami earlier last month.
