Salah saves the day for Liverpool

//

Liverpool have come from behind to win 3-1 at Southampton and return to the top of the Premier League.

Goals in the last 10 minutes from Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson lifted the Reds two points above defending champions Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

"We have 82 points now; that is massive in this crazy league and everyone is waiting for us," Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp told Sky Sports.

"I am really proud. It is incredible," he added. "We are in the race and that is nice."

Mo Salah

Relegation-threatened Southampton struck first at their Saint Mary's Stadium when Shane Long fired in from close range in the ninth minute.

It was their first goal in six league games against Liverpool, ending a barren run of 463 minutes.

Naby Keita then pulled the visitors level in the 36th minute with a header that keeper Angus Gunn got a hand to but could stop going in.

Liverpool dominated after the break and finally broke through in the 80th minute when Salah took off from the midway line to score his first goal in six league games.

Henderson, who came on in the second half, then clinched the win win six minutes later.

"It was very big, every game is massive," he said. "We've got to win every game.

"It was a big performance in the second half and a big result."

Southampton remain just five points above the relegation zone in 16th place with six games left.

"It does not feel good, the guys are frustrated and they showed a very good performance," Saints manager Ralph Hassenhuttl said.

"Not many have won against them this season, we had chances."

Three games are on tap for Saturday with Bournemouth hosting Burnley, Leicester at Huddersfield and Newcastle home to Crystal Palace.
