Scans reveal Trbojevic hamstring recovery timeline

//

Despite the Manly Sea Eagles securing themselves a surprise win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs at the weekend, Tom Trbojevic limped off the field with a hamstring injury.

According to a Sydney Morning Herald report, scans taken on the Manly star's left hamstring have revealed a strain that will sideline him for at least six weeks, with the worst case scenario ruling him out for up to nine weeks.

The injury is not only a major blow to the Sea Eagles but also to New South Wales in the State of Origin arena with the 22-year-old full-back playing a major role in last year's triumph.

Despite the blow to Trbojevic, Blues coach Brad Fittler remained optimistic about the availability of the Manly star.

Tom Trbojevic

"It's 59 days until Origin, 49 days until you pick the team," Fittler told The Sunday Footy Show. "That still gives him about eight weeks.

"You could see by the way he played last week against the Warriors in his comeback game... he would have been picked on that performance."

Manly coach Des Hasler will have his hands full trying to replace Trbojevic but is likely to have some ideas after coping without the Origin star over the first two rounds of the NRL season.

Manly will look to build on its shock win over the Rabbitohs when it takes on the Newcastle Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium in Round 5.
