This picture has shocked even the most brutal sport

//

A bloody main event at the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships 5 event has divided combat sports watchers, after horrific post-fight images of the boxers emerged.

Former UFC fighters Artem Lobov and Jason Knight faced off in Biloxi, Mississippi, with the fight going the full five rounds. Lobov, best known in MMA for being a teammate of Conor McGregor, won by unanimous decision after knocking down Knight in each of the first three rounds.

Bare knuckle fighting is not for the faint-hearted - a fact graphically proven by the fighters' appearance after the bout.

In case you can't tell who won, Knight is on the left, Lobov on the right. They posted images of their faces separately, making light of their battering.

Yet the extent of the brutality did not sit right with some seasoned viewers, especially give that Bare Knuckle FC is not thought to pay big purses to its fighters.

Yet other watchers hailed Lobov and Knight as warriors, including UFC legend Carlos 'Natural Born Killer' Condit. Lobov and McGregor's coach, John Kavanagh, sent props to his fighter and his opponent, while UFC broadcaster Jon Anik also hailed both men, tweeting: "Lotta respect for these warriors".

Bare knuckle boxing generally requires fighters to punch more selectively and accurately, with slightly less power in order to not break their hands. But the lack of gloves makes for savage damage when a fist connects with a face.

Lobov's win set him up for a grudge clash with McGregor's former sparring partner and boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi. The pair had a fracas in the lead-up to BKFC 5, in which Malignaggi slapped Lobov, and they will settle their differences in the main event at BKFC 6 on June 22.

“Malignaggi is a little p***y who plucks his eyebrows. I’m going to spark him,” Lobov said.

Lobov beat Knight 48-47, 47-47, 48-46 and said he was a clear winner despite the awful damage both men sustained.

“I’ll let my face do the talking. I thought he was gone there many times. He’s a tough, tough kid. He kept coming and coming,” Lobov said.

Yet Knight claimed he was "robbed".

“We all know I didn’t lose that damn fight. We all know I got robbed,” Knight said.

Concern over the modest purses given to bare knuckle boxers escalated at BKFC 5 when president Dave Feldman declared that he was cutting the purse of a fighter - Rusty Crowder - in half after he gave a timid performance in a loss to Reggie Barnett Jr; who Feldman intended to give the stripped money.

“Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship is a new sport and a brand new company and we’re here for action,” Feldman said, entering the ring to make the shock announcement.

“And we want action and we demand action from the fighters. We didn’t get action in that last fight because Rusty Crowder wanted to run. Therefore he’s giving half his purse to Reggie Barnett. Make some noise, Biloxi! This is how we do it at Bare Knuckle, you fight or you don’t get paid.”

Feldman later withdrew the threat and said that he had paid Crowder in full.
