Gutherson set to meet with rival coach

//

Parramatta Eels captain Clint Gutherson could be set to depart the club following a meeting with Manly Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler.

The off-contract Gutherson has been linked with a move back to the club where he was a junior after knocking back the latest offer from the Eels.

Speaking to Nine News, NRL reporter Danny Weidler revealed that the meeting with Hasler will take place in the next 24 to 48 hours, with the possibility that the two could meet as soon as Wednesday night.

Gutherson is seeking a four-year deal worth about $2.8 million, according to The Daily Telegraph, and gave the Eels a Round 5 deadline to offer a reasonable deal.

But after the Eels' offers fell well short of the 24-year-old's expectations, manager Sam Ayoub informed the club that Gutherson would be shopped around.

The Telegraph reported that Gutherson was initially offered a two-year deal for $450,000 and $500,000, then $500,000 over both years, and finally a three-year offer for a total $1.5 million.

The news of Gutherson's upcoming meeting with Hasler comes after Parramatta Eels legend Peter Sterling implored the club to get a new deal sorted.

Gutherson is one of 14 Eels players who are currently out of contract.
