Coniglio reaches major free-agency decision

//

Stephen Coniglio will remain a member of the GWS Giants after spurning monster offers from both Carlton and Hawthorn.

After major speculation throughout the season, Coniglio agreed to a seven-year deal to remain with the Giants, a massive boost for the AFL's youngest club after locking down Josh Kelly late last year.

The in-demand 25-year-old will be guaranteed a deal in excess of $1 million a season to stay with the club that drafted him second overall in 2011.

Coniglio will be leaving money on the table to stay with the Giants, with the Blues reported to have tabled an offer of approximately $1.3 million annually.

Despite links to big Victorian clubs, the Giants always maintained confidence that the star midfielder would make a long-term commitment to the club.
