Newcastle legend foils attempted car-jacking

//

NEWCASTLE legend Ashley Gordon has been hailed as a hero after helping foil an attempted car-jacking by three masked men last weekend.

Armed with baseball bats and wearing hockey masks, the trio attacked a car in which Gordon - the Knights' first ever signing - was travelling in a Newcastle suburb with two mates on Saturday night.

The former player didn't want any acknowledgement for his actions but an eyewitness praised the courage of both Gordon and his two mates.

"The car stopped at a red light and these three young blokes came at them with bats raised," the eyewitness said.

"They obviously didn't know who they were dealing with because the three blokes got out of the car - even though they were unarmed - and took them on.

"They quickly disarmed them and had them on the ground. Two were arrested when the cops arrived a few minutes later but the third one escaped."

Newcastle police believe the trio had been involved in a series of other acts of vandalism and theft and are confident of catching the man who escaped.
