Brooks flattened by monster hit as Sharks lead

//

A monster hit from Cronulla Sharks youngster Ronaldo Mulitalo on Wests Tigers star halfback Luke Brooks has headlined an eventful first half at Lechhardt Oval.

Mulitalo's hit, which left Brooks with a black eye, was closely followed by a brilliant team try by Briton Nikora as the Sharks took an early lead in front of a hostile crowd.

After a Paul Momirovski tied up the scores with a penalty kick, a "freakish" kick from Shaun Johnson on the stroke of half-time lead to a penalty which gave the Sharks a 6-4 lead at the main break.

With the two sides fighting for a finals spot, the Tigers were buoyed pre-game as veteran Robbie Farah was sensationally included for Corey Thompson.

Robbie Farah

Farah was initially left out of Michael Maguire's 17 due to a broken leg suffered a month ago, however, was a last-minute inclusion after Thompson was ruled out in the warm up with a strained Achilles.

The 35-year-old Farah started off the bench with Josh Reynolds starting at the dummy-half.

Farah has already announced he will retire at the end of the season.
